My Hobby is Photography

Photography is my hobby. I'm very interested in photography when I in university. So, I joined Kelab Fotokreatif UTM as junior member. In my thought, I was joined this club because  want to learn about photography but after first 6 month joined this club, I was appointed to be treasurer in sub-committee 38th UTM convocation  because my senior members look at my commitment to the club.

Therefore, beside of learn about photography, I also learned about management of society. In session 2008-2009 semester, I was promoted to be president of this club. This is the highest position in this club. In the top level of management, a lot of challenges that I have been faced. How to deal with another members, alumni, staffs in UTM and also deal with other outside company such as printing photo company.

By doing photography as my hobby, I also make money by doing part time job as wedding photographer.First time I become official wedding photographer when I at my hometown. I was took the wedding photo ceremony my friend's cousin. Below are the photos that I have been taken and do some editing.

The female bride is my friend's cousin. This photo is front page of the album photo that useful to tell who see the album to know what the date and where of this wedding ceremony take place.

The 'Akad Nikah' ceremony done in Friday night, the night  before the wedding ceremony.
The overall wedding ceremony. I give the theme of this ceremony is Gold Glitter because of the attire of the both bride is gold color.
Black and white to give effect as historical situation and nostalgic memory.
Hopefully lasting until the end of life. Make editing like magazine cover to make them feel popular.

Internship at Boustead Naval Shipyard

Internship or practical training is one of the requirement that need to be done we can be graduated. Internship will exposed students about the real working life in order to make the students prepare themselves for future career after graduated.

My internship was done at Boustead Naval Shipyard (BNS) Sdn. Bhd, Lumut Perak. This is Government Link Company (GLC). BNS have two main departments that are Ship Repair Division and Ship Building Division. Most of the ship that have been repair and build are from Malaysia Navy. There are also build ship hotel and big tugboat.

I was going the internship in about 10 weeks started in July 2009. At there, I have been located at Ship Repair Division. Under the Ship Repair, there are so many workshops and I have experienced on job training as skill worker at 4 workshop that are Pipe, Valve and Pump Workshop, HVAC and Machining Workshop, Engine Repair Workshop and Hydraulic and Shafting Workshop.

I have been experienced to do the jobs such as maintenance on split unit air conditioner, tapping for engine mounting board, as a crew to the job for change base plate for ship fin stabilizer and also change oil piping valve, checked the straightness of propeller shaft and a lot of workshop pressure test of components such as valve and and hydraulic system.
At KD Lekiu ship fin stabilizer. Remove the old fin stabilizer base plate.

Very hard to unbolt the nut.
Use the chain lock to push up the base plate.

Although, the training was as low level worker and do what low level workers do but by doing these kind of jobs, I have gained a lot of experienced. It is very important to me in future work as an engineer. As an engineer, we need to know to do all the jobs although we do no need to do the job. To plan the schedule of the jobs, it is important to engineer to know the all jobs because by knowing the jobs, we can estimate the time to finish out the jobs.

Other than that, learned to get bonding with low level workers and also with high level workers. The ways to threat them, the ways to communicate with them and etc are the good opportunity that not can be learned at the lecture hall because this not in syllabus. It is all about your experienced and how to this experienced is based on yourself.

Finally, I can said that the internship is very useful and really means to me. Thank very much to all workers at this company. Every advices and knowledges that I have got form there, I will use it to all entire of my life.

Guidelines to Setting up Computer Workstation

Most of us have no idea how the important of being ergonomically when work at computer workstation. The key point of this understanding is the word 'ergonomics'. What is ergonomics? Ergonomics is the study of human connection and the workplace, including tools and the environment. All these should be designed to meet and facilitate the people.

In this blog, I want to share my knowledge about this especially ergonomics at computer workstation because I have learned this subject and this topic also became my title for undergraduate project. Basically in computer workstation, it consist components that are chair, desk, screen, keyboard, mouse and CPU. The main components that give effect to human body are chair, desk, screen, keyboard and mouse because these components frequently use by the people who at a computer workstation.

If viewed on a computer workstation, most of it have computer desk that cannot be change in height of the desk and also have drawer to put a keyboard and a mouse. Therefore,  a chair and a screen should be the type that can be adjusted and changed easily it position.

Procedure:

1- Chair

  • To obtain good posture, a chair that need to be use at computer workstation is caster chair ( Picture 1).It is because this chair can be adjusted the armrest, backrest, seat pan and also easily to position.
  • Setting forearm in relaxed condition (Picture 2). It is related to the position of a keyboard and a mouse. It will discuss below, next procedure.
  • Setting the backrest of the chair around 110-119 degree reclined angle. The lumbar support characteristic at the backrest helps to maintain the alignment of the spine (S-curve) and also relief fatigue and discomfort (Picture 3).
  • Setting the seat height until thigh straight to the floor and if feel not comfortable with this condition, use foot rest (Picture 4).

2- Screen

  • Once the chair and work surface height are properly adjusted, the monitor should be placed so that the top of the screen is at or just below eye level  (approximately 5-7cm seated eye level) when seated in an upright position.
  • Setting the screen view angle around 16 degree and make sure that tilt the screen perpendicular with screen view angle.
  • Use arms' length to setting up the screen viewing distance when seated comfortably in front of the keyboard (Picture 2).

3- Keyboard and Mouse

  • For the arm position at the keyboard, just follow the correct position on the picture above (Picture 1).
  • Supposedly, the slope of arm while using the keyboard is like the Picture 2 above.
  • Placing the mouse as close as possible to the keyboard. Placing the mouse on a slightly inclined surface, or using it on a mouse bridge placed over the keyboard (Picture 3) can help to bring it closer.

From the procedure above, I think is it enough to know what the basic idea of ergonomics workplace such as computer workstation. I hope everybody now days should be alert about this because bad positioning when using computer workstation can give bad effect to posture and muscle.
